In the run-up to Bookstore Day (celebrated in The Netherlands on April 24, 2018) my favorite bookstore ABC hosted several online competitions, one of which was “show a picture of your bookshelves”. I am immensely proud of and happy with my bookshelves, so I couldn’t resist. I didn’t win the main prize, but especially for me they created an extra prize. I guess they couldn’t resist my shelves either, the enablers…
Anyway, I got a wonderful goody bag with two books (Fortune Smiles, Adam Johnson’s story collection and this book), a bag from the ABC, a bag from Philip Pullman’s latest book The Book of Dust, and a gift card. Very generous!
I couldn’t resist reading this book right away. It contains short conversations between customers and employees of bookstores, conversations that are funny and sometimes quite unreal. It’s a funny little light read, that makes me wish to visit my bookstores again soon. Five out of five stars.
